Your place to begin

You belong here before you know a single step.

You don’t need a partner, a dance background, or a closet full of dance shoes. We teach the rhythm, technique, connection, and confidence that let you enjoy an actual social dance — not just memorize a routine.

Bachata Addiction, founded by Brandon & Skye, focuses on high-quality instruction, proper dance etiquette, community building and connection, and real-life places to use what you learn. Our highly specialized Latin Dance Academy brings that experience into one clear journey, from your first class to increasingly confident social dancing.

Your comfort. Your goals. Your way.

Find your way to learn.

Every dancer starts somewhere different. You might want personal attention before joining a group, a focused class where you can track your progress, or a fun night out with a lesson and dancing. There’s a place for all of it — and for you.

Build your skills

Sunday Academy classes

Focused, progressive group instruction with a clear learning pathway. Revisit skills, receive feedback, and track what you’re mastering as you work toward your next milestone.

A great fit when you want structure, consistency, and visible progress.

Enjoy the experience

Social-night classes

Fun, standalone lessons on Thursdays and the 2nd & 4th Saturdays, with beginners and more experienced dancers learning together. These classes aren’t a progressive course; they’re a welcoming way to try new material, meet people, and enjoy dancing afterward.

A great fit for a relaxed introduction or more opportunities to dance.

Make it personal

Private lessons

Individual attention shaped around your comfort, questions, and goals. Begin with private lessons until you feel ready for a group, or use them alongside classes to refine technique and work through specific challenges.

A great fit when you want a personal starting point or focused support.

Real classes. Real people.

Your next dance starts with people like you.

New skills. New connections. Shared progress.

Three ways to learn. One journey that’s yours.

We often encourage a mix of all three: Sunday classes build your foundation, private lessons give you individual guidance, and social-night classes and dancing help you put it into practice.

That’s an invitation, not a requirement. Start with what feels comfortable and fits your life. You can enjoy one option, combine two, or weave all three into your routine — and change the mix as your confidence and goals grow.

Your week might look like: focused learning on Sunday, a Thursday lesson followed by social dancing, and an occasional private to work on something specific. Or your first step might simply be one private lesson. Both are welcome.

Help me find my starting point

A first chapter you can picture

Imagine your first 12 weeks.

This is one possible journey when you attend and practice consistently. You can begin whenever you are ready and stay with each skill as long as you need.

Getting started · weeks 1–4

Find the beat. Meet your people.

Learn the basic, simple turns, and how to connect comfortably. Your first full song can start with just a few reliable moves.

Finding your flow · weeks 5–8

Start feeling comfortable beyond just the steps.

Add footwork, position changes, and smoother transitions. Practice with different partners and start recognizing what the music is asking for.

Making it yours · weeks 9–12

Walk onto the floor with confidence.

Build a social dance from the skills you know. Notice the progress, get specific feedback, and decide which milestone you want to earn next.

Yes, twelve weeks is possible! But don’t worry — Academy certificates are earned by demonstrating skills, whether that takes less time or much more. In other words, you can move at your own pace.

The Dance Academy pathway

A clear pathway.
Your own pace.

The first two levels are open, so you can join and revisit lessons as you grow.

Before Level 3, you’ll demonstrate mastery of Levels 1 and 2 and complete Dancer Fundamentals — a focused milestone in body motion, balance, and control.

Dancer Fundamentals

The game changer most dance training skips.

You can learn hundreds of moves — but without the right foundation, something can still feel missing. That natural rhythm.

This is the layer that can change your entire dance.

Dancer Fundamentals goes beyond learning what step comes next to develop the body mechanics, control, and connection that make your dancing look better, feel better, and work better. These essential skills are often never specifically taught — or rushed past — even though they influence nearly everything you do on the dance floor.

  • Body motion built directly into your Bachata basic
  • Balance, weight transfer, and self-supported control
  • A strong, responsive partner frame
  • The movement quality and control that transforms everything you learn next

This is the game-changing difference between knowing the moves and becoming a fluent, natural-looking dancer. You can see & feel the difference.

Master the foundation. Unlock the dancer.

Required before Level 3 · Fundamentals Achievement
03

Sensual Technique

Build precision, control, and responsive partnerwork.

  • Body movement and isolations
  • Waves, shadow perspectives, and turn control
  • Safe, musical, self-supported shapes
Test out of Levels 1 & 2 + complete Fundamentals
04

Musical Artistry

Make the dance your own, together with the music.

  • Improvisation and musical interpretation
  • Advanced partnering and layered movement
  • Personal style and creative choices
Level 3 review · Artistry Certificate

Your bridge to Level 3: Dancer Fundamentals is completed after Social Flow and before Sensual Technique. Focused classes may be offered within Social Flow. Before entering Level 3, you must test out of both Levels 1 and 2 and demonstrate mastery of body motion in the basic, balance, control, and an established frame.

Every milestone is yours to earn

Progress you can feel & see.

Feel the difference. See how far you’ve come. Celebrate what you can do.

Bachata Addiction’s Latin Dance Academy gives you a visible path: what you are learning, what you can already do, and what comes next. Your certificate recognizes demonstrated ability, not a certain number of classes.

  1. 01 Learn and revisit skills in the open levels.
  2. 02 Get feedback and see your progress across rhythm, movement, connection, and musicality.
  3. 03 Show your skills in a friendly progress review when you are ready.
  4. 04 Celebrate your certificate and keep growing.

You do not need to become a performer — but if that’s where you’re headed, we can help.

Or you can simply become confident moving to the beat and enjoy life with an even fuller cup than ever before.

Your time. Your goals.

Good questions

Yes, you can start here.

Your first class does not require a partner, a dance background, or a decision to pursue every level.

Do I need to bring a partner?

Not at all! You are always welcome to come on your own. Many of our students arrive without a partner, and our classes are designed so you can comfortably participate either way.

During class, we typically rotate partners so students can practice with different people, meet other dancers, and develop stronger leading and following skills.

If you come with a spouse, significant other, or dedicated dance partner and prefer to stay together for the entire class, that is completely okay too. You are never required to rotate partners.

That said, many couples who attend together still choose to rotate. Dancing with different partners helps you learn how to adapt to different connections, timing, movement, and communication styles, which is an important part of developing strong real-world social dance skills. It helps make sure you are learning to truly lead or follow, rather than only becoming familiar with one person’s habits.

Whether you come solo, with friends, or with your own partner, you’ll be welcomed into class and able to participate in the way that feels most comfortable for you.

How often should I practice?

You do not have to practice outside of class to make progress, but when you’re learning a new skill, frequency matters more than long practice sessions.

The more often your brain and body are exposed to the movement, the easier it becomes to remember and reproduce it. Even short practice sessions can make a big difference.

A great goal is to have three touchpoints with the material each week. That might mean attending class once and then spending just 10 minutes practicing on two other days.

Those brief refreshers help reinforce what you learned before too much time passes, which can improve retention and make the next class feel much easier.

You do not need hours of practice. Consistency beats intensity. A few minutes, a few times a week, can go a long way toward helping the movement become natural.

How should I combine Academy classes, social-night classes, and private lessons?

Every student is different. Choose the starting point and mix that fit your comfort, goals, and schedule.

  • Start with privates: Some students take only private lessons until they feel comfortable joining a group. Individual attention can also support your progress alongside any of our classes.
  • Build on Sundays: Academy classes offer focused, progressive instruction, feedback, and progress you can track.
  • Keep it social: Thursday and Saturday lessons are fun, standalone classes with beginners and more experienced dancers learning together. They aren’t a progressive course, and you can stay afterward to enjoy social dancing.

We often encourage integrating all three: focused Sunday learning, a social-night lesson and dancing, and private guidance tailored to your needs. But there’s no required combination. You can start with one, add another when you feel ready, and adjust as your confidence and goals grow.

Find the learning pathway that fits you.

What if I have never danced before?

That is exactly what Foundations is for. We start with music, basic movement, connection, and simple turns.

Do I have to finish a level in a set number of weeks?

No. Levels 1 and 2 are open and self-paced. Practice and repeat lessons until the skills feel reliable. Next-level progression is based on what you master. When you’re ready, move forward — at your own pace!

How do I enter Level 3?

To enter Level 3 — Sensual Technique — you must test out of both Level 1 and Level 2 and complete Dancer Fundamentals. Your progress review checks timing, partner connection, body motion in the basic, balance, control, an established frame, and how you adapt in a real dance. Fundamentals may be offered as focused classes within Social Flow; readiness is based on demonstrated mastery.

Do I have to perform to earn a certificate?

Nope! The pathway recognizes social dance skills. Performances or showcases may be optional experiences, never a requirement for the certificates.

Do you offer classes on any other nights?

Yes! Every Thursday and the 2nd & 4th Saturdays of each month, join us at Bachata Addiction’s Rooftop Social for a fun way to learn, meet people, and dance afterward. These classes offer a broader social-class experience.

What about dance etiquette and hygiene?

Partner dancing is a close-contact social activity, so a little awareness goes a long way in helping everyone feel comfortable.

Please arrive clean and fresh, wear clean clothing, and use deodorant. If you tend to sweat heavily, bringing an extra shirt or small towel is always a good idea. Breath mints or gum before class can also be helpful, especially since partners often dance at close range.

Just as importantly, we want our dance environment to feel positive, friendly, welcoming, and supportive. Treat every partner with respect, maintain appropriate boundaries, and remember that anyone may decline a dance, rotation, or movement at any time.

During partner rotation, be welcoming to dancers of all experience levels. We encourage patience, kindness, and encouragement rather than unsolicited criticism or correction unless your partner specifically asks for feedback.

If you ever have a concern about another dancer, the environment, any aspect of a class or social event, an interaction, or anything that makes you feel uncomfortable, please speak with one of our instructors or staff members. We encourage concerns to be brought to us privately & directly so we can address them appropriately and help maintain a respectful, positive environment for everyone.

Our goal is to create a space where dancers feel comfortable learning, meeting new people, making mistakes, improving, and enjoying the experience together.

What should I wear to class?

Come comfortable! Our classes are casual, so wear clothing you can move freely in and feel confident dancing in. Attire should provide appropriate coverage for a group class environment.

For shoes, the most important thing is that they stay securely on your feet and allow you to move comfortably. Avoid flip-flops, slides, or other loose-fitting shoes.

For ballroom floors, shoes with a smooth or slicker sole are usually best because they allow you to turn and pivot without your foot sticking to the floor. Rubber-soled athletic sneakers can sometimes have too much grip on ballroom flooring.

Follows are welcome to wear dance heels or ballroom shoes, but they are absolutely not required. Many students begin in comfortable flat shoes and transition into dance heels later, once they feel more confident. If you eventually plan to social dance in heels, practicing in them can help you become comfortable dancing in the same style of shoe you’ll wear socially.

Phoenix tip: Some local social-dance floors, including Dave & Buster’s, are much slicker than a traditional ballroom floor, so sneakers may work perfectly well there even though they can feel too grippy on ballroom flooring.

Bottom line: Wear something comfortable, secure, and easy to move in. You do not need special dance clothes or dance shoes to get started.

Ready for dance shoes?

You definitely do not need dance shoes to begin, but once you start dancing regularly, the right shoes can make turning, pivoting, balance, and movement feel much easier.

A few dance-shoe brands we personally like and frequently see in the Latin dance community are:

  • GFranco — Latin dance shoes for leads and follows, including traditional dance soles and select street-sole options.
    Shop GFranco
  • Yami Dance Shoes — especially popular for Latin dance heels, with a variety of styles and heel heights.
    Shop Yami Dance Shoes
  • Burju Shoes — a large selection of dance heels, boots, and street-sole options, including different heel heights and styles.
    Shop Burju Shoes
  • Fuego — dance sneakers designed specifically for dancers, making turns and pivots easier than in traditional athletic sneakers.
    Shop Fuego
  • Taygra — lightweight, flexible dance sneakers with smooth PVC soles designed to allow easier turning while still providing control. They’re especially popular in Bachata, Salsa, Zouk, and other social dance styles.
    Shop Taygra

You do not have to buy from a specialty dance brand. We have plenty of dancers who have purchased dance shoes on Amazon or other online retailers that have been very happy with them. Ultimately, the best shoe is the one that feels comfortable, stays securely on your foot, works well with the floor you are dancing on, and fits your personal style and budget.

A note from us: Bachata Addiction does not currently have an affiliate partnership with these brands but we do regularly work with dance-shoe and apparel vendors at our festivals and events, so students may have opportunities to shop and try different styles in person.
